The United States lacks a formal law which covers the issue. In many countries there is a special forum that handles cases involving harassment. The National Women's Law Center in Washington, D.C. is a good example of this type of forum.Whether sexual harassment is illegal in the United States or not is not yet decided. Federal and state laws currently exist but have not been enforced at least in large part due to the lack of complaints against it. A number of lawsuits and public complaints have been filed against businesses and individuals, though these cases are being fought in the courts right now.The Federal Fair Employment Practices Act prohibits employment discrimination. These include sex, race, religion, national origin, age, disability, and other factors. In addition, the retaliation must be for what occurred prior to the complaint.
